Landfill gas collection system (GCS) design, and Landfill design

Landfill gas collection system (GCS) design, and Landfill design.

The MSE team can be involved in any stage of the GCS design process. From initial site revue to assess maximum peak landfill gas production volumes. Accurate pipework assessment and pressure calculation to assess optimum pipework requirement. To Accurate GCS field design and pipework (fixuture and fitting) quantification and contractor requirements. The MSE projects team can assist or complete any stage and ensure a robust Design Proposal is achieved that fulfills the economic and environmental needs of the project. The in house team of project managers, surveyors and draftsman results in a comprehensive turnkey approach to design ensuring all drill depths and designs are assessed with seamless movement between the design, site and completion phases of the project.

All designs and design processes are closely linked with the regulating body of a territory or country (in the case of the UK the within England the Environment Agency, Wales the National Resource Wales and Scotland the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency). MSE has been working for clients on behalf of all 3 territory regulatory bodies since 2003, and comply or outperform the guidance and Industry Code of Practices out lined to ensure the bar over and above compliance is met. This is all part of our Construction Quality Assurance Program.

The projects team managers hold a high level of CPD and generally hold at least a technical membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health, and associate membership of the Association for Project Safety. Associate membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment is also a prerequisite of an MSE Project Manager. This ensures safety is at the forefront of any MSE led project with the environmental aspects of the project fully assessed and achieved.

Landfill GCS installation and landfill construction supervision and project management

The MSE team has an unrivalled level of GCS installation supervision and project management experience. The projects team are experienced in contractor coordination and control. Every project is managed with a high emphasis on communication with the client and thorough transparency to ensure all stake holders within any given project are completely informed of the project progress. MSE project managers not only control projects on behalf of clients but are often seconded to the client management team to manage projects through the concept to construction phase.

Landfill GCS Performance assessments and gas well temperature profiling

The MSE team has some of the most experienced field based site technicians available within the UK. The technicians can gather onsite flow reading, pressure profiles and gas compositions and then normalise the data sets to ensure the correct data assessment criteria has been met, ensuring operational efficiency maximising electricity generation and environmental compliance.

The team has experience and DSEAR compliant equipment that enables detailed temperature profiles of each of your existing gas wells, this data not only allows a thorough assessment of subterranean thermal activity but also can lead to a detailed gas well performance assessment. The MSE team can perform simple dip assessment (liquid and temperature) as well as gas well head surveys, to the more complex flow surveys and pressure profiling. All leading up to a comprehensive overall performance assessment.

Landfill GCS monitoring and balancing

The MSE in house staff are ready to assist your organisation monitor and balance your gas field. MSE staff can readily fit in to an adhoc arrangement to cover sick, holiday or promotional leave to balance your field to your bespoke criteria and procedures. MSE technicians are often seconded for 6 to 12 month durations to ensure comprehensive coordination between MSE, the client and the operational team on site.

If necessary and at your request MSE technicians can implement changes to your procedures to better suit your generation and compliance needs. MSE works closely with data performance assessment tools such as RunGas, Monitor Pro and LFG Manager.

Fugitive emission surveys (FID/Gazomat/Gasurveyor)

The MSE team has undertaken various fugitive emission surveys on behalf of our clients. The equipment used varies dependent upon regulatory organisations equipment use in enforcement (if the EA use a Gazomat, we use a Gazomat). This ensure like for like results are obtained and ensures transparency and seamlessness between the data sets.

Fugitive emission survey data is displayed to your requirements, whether this be graphically, geometrically on a drawing locating point sources and ambient levels, or quite commonly now in use an isopac presentation contouring the emission levels around your site detecting unseen point sources previously undiscovered.

Landfill GCS installation Construction Quality Assurance

MSE Has been working on behalf of the Environment Agency (EA), National Resource Wales (NRW) and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for our clients for over a decade. Our Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) processes have not only been accepted as good practice by many of our clients but has also been accepted by all 3 regulatory bodies over the last 10 years. Our CQA methodology and approach complies with or out performs the guidance and Industry Code of Practices out lined to ensure the compliance bar is met. This is all part of our Construction Quality Assurance Program.

The MSE team can be involved in any stage of the GCS design and CQA process. From initial site revue to assess maximum peak landfill gas production volumes. Gas Utilisation Plant (GUP) site safety assessment

GUP compounds are safe, however have inherent dangers, that unforeseen may result in injury, harm in some cases death. The resultant loss is costly, and in many cases easily avoided. MSE has and can provide detailed GUP compound assessment, taking into consideration of Health and Safety Hazards and Risks as well as Environmental Aspects that may cause damage.

The MSE in house team of assessors, auditors and draftsman can not only produce accurate registers of risks, aspects and controls, but also produce detailed site safety drawing highlighting key safety points. Including access routes, muster point, safety equipment isolations points for electricity and gas, the list is endless.

GUP and GCS DSEAR ASSESSMENTS

Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations are a key part of the waste industry. Methane escape through Landfill fugitive and point source escape can result in explosive environments governed by the regulations.

The MSE team can assess your gas field and ensure the Industry Code of Practice is met and ensure compliance. MSE Can also produce detailed fugitive emission surveys to ensure you maintain your knowledge of sources of explosive atmosphere on your site and put appropriate controls in place.
